The second generation, the CD539, was shown at the 2014 Paris show and went into production in late 2015 with the same engines as the Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge. It was facelifted in 2019 with only EcoBlue diesel engines, and from 2021 it had only a 2.5 litre hybrid. Production ended in April 2023. Its model years run from 2015 to 2023. The S-Max was a Ford designed mid size people carrier that shared parts with the Galaxy and the Mondeo, and it was sold only in Europe.
