In 2022 the S-Max was in its last full year, sold only with the hybrid powertrain, as Ford moved its European focus to crossovers, SUVs and electrified vehicles. The Galaxy was announced for withdrawal that January, and the S-Max would follow it without a direct successor. The S-Max was a Ford designed mid size people carrier that shared parts with the Galaxy and the Mondeo, and it was sold only in Europe. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
