The S-Max was discontinued in April 2023 together with the Galaxy, with no direct successor, after sharply falling sales in the MPV segment and Ford's shift to crossovers and electric cars. It had won European Car of the Year for 2007, as the sporty alternative to the Galaxy. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun. The S-Max was a Ford designed mid size people carrier that shared parts with the Galaxy and the Mondeo, and it was sold only in Europe.
