Dodge Caravan (S platform)

Automobiles

The first generation Dodge Caravan was launched in November 1983 for the 1984 model year, with the Plymouth Voyager and the Mini Ram Van cargo van, as the first minivan from an American manufacturer. It used the front wheel drive Chrysler S platform, a development of the K car, in passenger and cargo form, and Chrysler built it in Saint Louis and Windsor, Ontario. Development began in the late 1970s after Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich joined Chrysler from Ford. A long wheelbase Grand Caravan arrived for 1987. Its model years run from 1984 to 1990.
