The E30 was the second 3 Series and the one that made the nameplate a world standard for small sports saloons. Development began in 1976 and the car reached showrooms at the end of 1982. It added a four door saloon, a factory convertible and a Touring estate, a six cylinder diesel and the first all wheel drive BMW, the 325iX, and it carried the first M3. A Series 2 update in 1987 brought new engines and a restyle. Its model years run from 1982 to 1994.
