BMW 3 Series (E21)

Automobiles

The E21 was the first 3 Series, a sporty two door compact car that took over from the 02 Series in 1975 and set the formula of rear wheel drive, MacPherson strut front suspension and a driver focused cockpit that BMW kept for decades. It launched with carburetted four cylinder engines, gained fuel injection and six cylinder power in the late 1970s and offered a Baur built convertible. It was the car that introduced the naming scheme tied to the 5 Series. Its model years run from 1975 to 1983.
