1976 BMW 3 Series

Automobiles

In 1976 the E21 had its first full year on sale, built around the four cylinder 316, 318, 320 and 320i. The 316 was the base model, a car that took 14 seconds to reach 100 km/h from its 1.6 liter engine. A close ratio five speed gearbox became available in 1976 as an alternative to the overdrive fifth gear, and the interior, with the center console angled toward the driver, was a new departure for BMW.
