The E36 was the third 3 Series, a smoother and more aerodynamic car than the E30 that sold in saloon, coupe, convertible, Touring and Compact hatchback forms. It brought the multilink rear suspension, stability control, a four cylinder diesel and the first six speed manual in an M3, and it was built in four countries. It was rear wheel drive only, unlike the cars before and after it, and Car and Driver put it on its 10Best list for every year it was on sale. Its model years run from 1990 to 2000.
