In 1999 the E36 coupe, convertible and Touring were in their final year of production, as the E46 range filled out with its own versions. The 3 Series Compact kept going as the last E36 body style. In total the E36 had been the first 3 Series offered as a hatchback, and it ended up as one of the biggest sellers of its era. The Compact hatchback and the new E46 saloon and Touring were sold at the same time.
