September 1985 brought a minor update with new trim inside and out. The 325i replaced the 323i, the diesel 324d joined the range, and a factory convertible entered the line while the Baur cabriolet remained on sale. That same year BMW South Africa's Motorsport division created the 333i by fitting the big M30 six into a two door E30, and the diesel proved popular where motor vehicle tax was high. The 325i with its 2.5 liter engine became the main six cylinder model.
