Triumph is a British car marque that grew out of the Coventry bicycle and motorcycle maker founded by Siegfried Bettmann, and the firm made its first car in 1923. Triumph built sports cars such as the TR series, the Spitfire and the Stag and saloons such as the Herald and the Dolomite, and it passed from Standard to Leyland in 1960 and into British Leyland in 1968. BL retired the marque in 1984, and the rights to the name are held by BMW, which got them with the Rover Group.
