The Land Rover Series is the original Land Rover, the compact British off-road vehicle that the Rover Company launched in 1948 and that British Leyland kept building until 1985. It was worked up in the aftermath of the Second World War as a light farm and utility machine in the spirit of the wartime Jeep, with a box-section steel chassis, an aluminium body and drive take-offs for farm machinery. The Series I, II, IIA and III each have their own generation page, and every model year from 1948 to 1985 has a page of its own that records what the sources say about that year. The span from 1948 to 1985 gives well over thirty model year pages, so the year list is shown a page at a time.
