Two changes marked 1950. The headlamps, which had sat behind the grille, were moved forward so that they showed through it, and the unusual four-wheel-drive layout built around a freewheel unit gave way to a more conventional one in which a simple dog clutch took drive to the front axle. In August of that year the firm Car Distributors Assembly put together the first Land Rover from a knocked-down kit, at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
