Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota Motor Corporation. It grew out of a Toyota project begun in 1983 to build the best flagship sedan in the world, and it opened in 1989 with the LS 400 sold first in export markets led by the United States. Inside Japan the same cars were sold with Toyota badges and different names until Lexus dealerships opened there in 2005, which is why several Lexus models have a Japanese Toyota twin. The line has since grown from sedans to coupes, convertibles, SUVs and hybrids, with an F performance line from 2007 and the LFA supercar from 2009.
