The Lexus ES is a front-wheel-drive luxury sedan that Lexus has marketed since 1989, when it appeared in Detroit as one of the two launch models of the new brand beside the LS 400. Lexus developed it quickly so that the marque would not open with a single car, and the first generation ES 250 used the Camry's 2.5 litre V6. The first five generations rode on the Toyota Camry platform and later ones are closer to both the Camry and the Avalon. A hybrid version arrived in 2012 and a battery electric version in 2025. The name stands for Executive Sedan, although some importers use Elegant Sedan, and the ES held the entry level of the Lexus range until the IS arrived in 1999.
