The Lexus GX is a mid- to full-size luxury SUV that Lexus sells in North American and Eurasian markets, based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, from which it takes its off-road ability. Lexus introduced the first generation, the GX 470, at the North American International Auto Show in January 2002 as a 2003 model, with sales starting in November 2002, and it became the third SUV in the Lexus line-up. A full-time four-wheel drive system with low-range gearing is standard. The 4.7 litre V8 was shared with the larger LX 470, the 2009 second generation became the GX 460 with a 4.6 litre V8, and a GX 400 with a 4.0 litre V6 was sold in China from 2012 until it was discontinued there in November 2017.
