The XJ Cherokee was developed by American Motors and marketed across a single generation in the United States from 1983, as a 1984 model, through 2001, and globally through 2014. It was Jeep's first all new design since the 1963 Wagoneer and the first Jeep with a ladder boxed chassis integrated into a single unibody structure. It came as a two or four door, five passenger car with rear or four wheel drive. Chrysler planned to replace it with the Grand Cherokee but kept it in production because it stayed so popular. Its model years run from 1984 to 2001.
