For 1998 the Sport trim was replaced by the Classic and Limited trims, and the Limited rejoined the lineup after replacing the Country. The Classic had monotone paint, cloth upholstery, 16 inch alloy wheels and a remote keyless entry. The Classic replaced the Country along with the Limited in 1998 and was dropped after the 2000 model year, and the Limited was the top trim of the XJ. It was sold as a two or four door SUV.
