The Toyota Starlet is a subcompact car that Toyota manufactured from 1973 until 1999, replacing the Publica but keeping the Publica's P code and generation numbering. In Japan it was exclusive to Toyota Auto Store dealers. It was the first subcompact from a Japanese automaker to offer a high performance variant, in the Turbo S, GT Turbo and Glanza V. The second generation was briefly exported to North America from 1981 to 1984. In 1999 the Starlet was replaced by the Vitz, sold as the Echo or Yaris abroad, and the nameplate was revived in 2020 for a rebadged Suzuki Baleno sold in Africa. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, P40 and P50 (1973 to 1977); the second generation, P60 (1978 to 1983); the third generation, P70 (1984 to 1989); the fourth generation, P80 (1989 to 1995); the fifth generation, P90 (1996 to 1999).
