The fifth Charger was a small front drive two door hatchback on Chrysler's L platform, related to the Omni and the Plymouth Turismo. The name returned in 1981 as a performance package on the Dodge Omni 024 with Chrysler's new 2.2 liter four cylinder engine, and in 1983 the 024 itself became the Charger. Carroll Shelby tuned the Shelby Charger versions, including a turbocharged one in 1985. The last cars were built for 1987, when the Shadow and Sundance replaced them. Its model years run from 1981 to 1987.
