The Charger name returned in 1981 as a performance package on the front drive Omni 024, called the Charger 2.2. It cost $399 extra and brought a hood scoop, quarter window appliques, special gearing, a rear spoiler, tape graphics and the new 84 horsepower 2.2 liter four cylinder engine designed and built by Chrysler. The package was an option on a car that had been introduced in 1979 as the Omni 024, a sloping hatchback on a shortened L platform.
