The CL was a mid-size four-passenger luxury coupe that Acura built in two generations, for the 1997 to 1999 and 2001 to 2003 model years, with no 2000 model in between. It was the first Acura to be built in the United States, and it was based on the Honda Civic at first and then on the Accord, in step with the TL sedan. A concept car, the CL-X, showed its styling at the 1995 Detroit show. The Type-S of the second generation had a 260 horsepower V6 and in 2003 a six-speed manual transmission. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation (1997 to 1999 model years); the second generation (2001 to 2003 model years).
