The 1997 Acura CL was the first model year of the coupe, in production from February 1996. It was offered as the 3.0CL with a 200 horsepower V6 and as the 2.2CL with a 145 horsepower four-cylinder, both with a Premium trim that added leather upholstery and, in the 3.0, heated front seats and a Bose stereo. The 3.0 wore a five-spoke alloy wheel, and the 2.2CL a six-spoke one. The four-cylinder car could be ordered with a five-speed manual.
