The second-generation CL was completely redesigned and released in March 2000 as a 2001 model, since there had been no 2000 CL. It carried a 3.2 litre SOHC VTEC V6 of 225 horsepower and was built at the Marysville plant in Ohio, on the same basis as the TL and the American Accord. The Type-S had 260 horsepower, firmer suspension and 17 inch wheels, and for 2003 it could be had with a six-speed manual. Fewer than 31,000 CLs were sold from 2000 to 2003.
