The 2003 CL was the last, and the Type-S was offered for 2003 with a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission and a helical limited-slip differential, a change many critics praised. Only 3,514 manuals were built for the United States, plus 331 for Canada. The CL also received cosmetic changes including body-colored grille surround and door handles, new headlights and tail lights, and updated 12-spoke wheels on the Type-S, before being dropped in 2003 with no replacement.
