The Mark 2 Astra was launched on 17 October 1984 and was voted 1985 European Car of the Year. The saloon was launched in January 1986 and sold as the Vauxhall Belmont, a trend to brand saloon models independently of hatchbacks, and Bertone built 6,764 cabriolets from 1987 to 1993. Its model years run from 1984 to 1991. The Astra Mk2 ran at Ellesmere Port to 1993, with the Opel Kadett badged export from 1990.
