From 1976 the Road Runner name left the mid-size B body and was applied to the two door version of the new Volare, the compact car that replaced the Valiant and Duster. It became an appearance and graphics package with suspension parts borrowed from the police cars, not a performance model in its own right. The 318 V8 was the standard engine through most of the run, with the 360 offered as an option until 1979. The Road Runner stayed in the Volare line until the nameplate was discontinued in 1980. Its model years run from 1976 to 1980.
