For 1979 the 360 with a four barrel carburetor gained dual exhaust and produced 195 horsepower, while the standard engine for the model year was the old 225 Slant Six. This made the 1979 Road Runner the year with the widest spread between its least and most powerful engines in the Volare era. The Volare based Road Runner was by now primarily a trim and graphics package, with suspension parts borrowed from the police packages.
