The 1980 model year was the last for the Road Runner. The 360 was no longer offered, leaving the 318 as the top engine, and the nameplate was discontinued when the Volare line ended. The name had by then been a trim package for four model years, with none of the performance that had made the 1968 original popular. With the 318 as its top engine, the Road Runner closed a run of thirteen model years that had begun with the 383 powered coupe of 1968.
