For 1971 the Road Runner coupe was given a rounded fuselage body with a raked windshield, hidden cowl and deeply inset grille, and its two door body now shared little with the four door cars. The convertible was dropped. Tighter emission rules cut power ratings sharply from 1972, the Hemi left the options list, and a squared up restyle for 1973 and 1974 helped sales while moving the car further from muscle car territory. Race teams still used the 1971 and 1972 bodies, and Richard Petty took two NASCAR titles in them. Its model years run from 1971 to 1974.
