The Road Runner was redesigned for 1971 with fuselage styling that included a steeply raked windshield, a hidden cowl and deeply inset headlights. The two door body now shared little sheet metal with the four door cars, and the convertible was canceled. The interior could be had with leather power seats, deep carpet and extra sound insulation, and ride and handling were considered a high point for the model. Richard Petty won the NASCAR championship in cars based on this body.
