The 1970 model year gave the Road Runner a new grille, hood, fenders and tail, along with larger disc brakes and loud High Impact paint colors with names like In-Violet and Vitamin C. Sales fell by more than half, to roughly 41,000, as insurance surcharges pushed buyers away and Plymouth's cheaper Duster 340 took some of them. It was the last year for the convertible, of which 834 were built. The winged Plymouth Superbird, a separate NASCAR homologation special built on the Road Runner, was sold in 1970 only.
