The first Road Runner arrived for the 1968 model year as Plymouth's stripped muscle car, built on the B platform of the Belvedere with a bench seat, almost no trim and a high output 383 V8 as its standard engine. Plymouth paid Warner Bros. for the right to use the cartoon bird and developed a special horn that went beep beep. The car sold far beyond what Plymouth expected, gained a convertible for 1969 and a restyled front and rear for 1970, and sat beside the track oriented Superbird of 1970. Its model years run from 1968 to 1970.
