The 1974 Road Runner was the second year of the squared up body and the last of the second generation. It kept the 318 V8 as its base engine, and by now quarter mile times were close to sixteen seconds and top speeds had slipped to little over 125 miles per hour, so the car was moving away from true muscle car status. It was also the last model year of the squared up Road Runner that had begun in 1973, before the name moved to the restyled mid-size body that carried the Fury name for 1975.
