The third generation MX-5, the NC, took its cues from the Ibuki concept car of 2003 and was introduced in 2005. It brought a Power Retractable Hard Top, a folding hard roof that does not take up trunk space, beside the soft top roadster. The generation won the Car of the Year Japan award for 2005 to 2006 and was on the Car and Driver 10Best list every year from 2006 to 2013. Production continued until 2015, when the fourth generation replaced it. Its model years run from 2005 to 2014.
