The Pinto had a single generation, introduced on 11 September 1970 on a completely new platform with a powertrain from the European Escort. Its mechanical design was conventional, a unibody with a front inline four driving the rear wheels, front coil springs and a live rear axle on leaf springs. Ford wanted it under 2,000 pounds and under 2,000 dollars, and development took 25 months. It was restyled for 1977 and 1979 and ended in July 1980. Each model year has its own page.
