The Ford Pinto was a subcompact car built and sold by Ford in North America from 1970 until 1980, the first subcompact Ford built in North America. It was sold as a two door fastback sedan, a three door hatchback and a two door wagon, with Mercury offering a rebadged version as the Bobcat. More than three million were built, and it is remembered also for the debate over its rear mounted fuel tank design. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1971 to 1980 model years).
