The second generation arrived in Japan as the BF in January 1985 and in Australia as the KC Laser and GC Meteor that October, with a wagon added in 1986 and the KE facelift of October 1987 dropping the Meteor badge. The sporty TX3 became the flagship, and a diesel and a cabriolet appeared in Japan. Its model years run from 1985 to 1988. The Laser was a Ford badged version of the Mazda Familia, and it was one of the smaller cars in the Ford range of that period.
