The ninth generation Malibu was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and went on sale in late 2015 as a 2016 model, with a sleeker and larger design like the full size Impala. It had a standard 1.5 liter turbocharged engine, a full hybrid, a mid cycle refresh for 2019, and ended in North America when production stopped in November 2024. Its model years run from 2016 to 2025. Outside North America the Malibu was also sold in China and South Korea.
