The E24 was the first 6 Series, a two door grand touring coupe on the 5 Series platform that replaced the E9. Production began in January 1976 with the 633CSi, followed by the carburetted 630CS, and 86,216 cars had been made by April 1989. Karmann built the early cars before BMW took assembly to Dingolfing. It spawned the first M6, the M635CSi of 1983, and was replaced by the 8 Series. Its model years run from 1976 to 1989.
