In July 1978 the more powerful 635CSi variant was introduced, with a 3.5 liter fuel injected six cylinder engine, the performance model of the E24 range. After the changeover to Dingolfing the previous year the bodies were built in house, and the coupe had by now been in production for two and a half years, with the 633CSi as its other model. It was a 3.5 liter car that brought the E24 a performance flagship until the M635CSi arrived in 1983.
