An 1800 fuel injected version was added to the 1300 and 1600 forms, used in the Mk1 Astra GTE model introduced in 1983. In September 1983, to fill the gap left by the recently discontinued HA Van and responding to customer criticism about pricing and excessively comfortable equipment, a more bare bones fleet version of the van was introduced. The Astra was built at Ellesmere Port in England. The Astra GTE of 1983 was a Mk1.
