The Toyota Highlander is a mid size SUV with three rows of seats that Toyota has built since 2000, a crossover on a car based platform. It was announced at the New York show in April 2000, reached Japan late that year under the name Kluger and North America in January 2001, and it was one of the first mid size SUVs of that type, here sharing the platform of the Camry. Australia also uses the Kluger name, because Highlander is a trademarked trim name there. It was Toyota's best selling SUV in the United States until the smaller RAV4 passed it in 2006, and a fifth generation unveiled in February 2026 is a battery electric model that Subaru also sells as the Getaway. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, XU20 (2001 to 2007); the second generation, XU40 (2008 to 2013); the third generation, XU50 (2014 to 2019); the fourth generation, XU70 (2020 to 2026).
