The second generation went on sale in the United States in July 2007 as the 2008 Highlander, with hybrids in late September. Its sole powertrain at first was a 3.5 liter V6 of 270 horsepower with a five speed automatic, and the Kluger launched in Australia in August 2007. This was the first model year of the Toyota Highlander (second generation, XU40), 2008 to 2013, which took over from the Toyota Highlander (first generation, XU20); the 2009 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Highlander run from 2001 to 2026.
