For the 2023 model year a 2.4 liter turbocharged four cylinder replaced the 3.5 liter V6 as the gasoline option, which gave up 30 horsepower but offered 17 percent more torque, and Toyota claimed it halved nitrogen oxide emissions. It was model year 4 of 7 in the Toyota Highlander (fourth generation, XU70), 2020 to 2026, coming after the 2022 model year and before the 2024 model year.
