The fifth generation Forester was presented on 28 March 2018 at the New York International Auto Show. Subaru introduced the e-Boxer hybrid powertrain for the European Forester and XV at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019, and a Forester Sport with a 1.8 liter direct injection turbocharged engine came in October 2020 for Japan. The facelifted car was released for North America in September 2021 for the 2022 model year. Its model years run from 2019 to 2024.
