The facelifted model of the fifth generation Forester, released in North America in September 2021, was the 2022 model year car. It was a compact crossover SUV with the 2.5 liter boxer engine, built in Japan and sold in North America, Europe and Asia. The Forester has been awarded Motor Trend's SUV of the Year for 2009 and 2014. Subaru of Indiana Automotive makes about half of all Subaru vehicles sold in North America.
