Honda has built the City, a subcompact car, since 1981. It was originally a three door hatchback for the Japanese, European and Australasian markets, retired in 1995 after the second generation and replaced by the Logo. The nameplate was revived in 1996 for a series of subcompact four door sedans aimed primarily at developing markets, first mainly in Asia but later in Latin America and Australia, and since then built on Honda's Global Small Car platform shared with the Fit and Jazz. From 2002 to 2008 the City was sold as the Honda Fit Aria in Japan, it is sold as the Honda Ballade in South Africa since 2011, and it was sold in Japan as the Honda Grace from 2014 to 2020. A five door hatchback has been offered since 2020. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into 7 generations: the first generation (1981 to 1985 model years); the second generation (1986 to 1994 model years); the third generation (1996 to 2001 model years); the fourth generation (2002 to 2007 model years); the fifth generation (2008 to 2013 model years); the sixth generation (2014 to 2018 model years); the seventh generation (2019 to 2026 model years). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
