The Sierra was one generation with a major facelift in 1987. It went on sale on 15 October 1982, replacing the Taunus and the Cortina, with a drag coefficient of 0.34 against the old cars' 0.45 and a fully independent chassis, but a conservative drivetrain of rear wheel drive and Cortina era engines. The four door Sapphire arrived in 1987 and the Cosworth versions in 1986. It was replaced by the Mondeo in April 1993. Its model years run from 1982 to 1993.
