The Sierra was replaced by the front wheel drive Mondeo in Europe in April 1993, though stocks lasted for about two years afterwards. By then it stood out from almost all of its rivals in the class because it kept rear wheel drive. It had been a popular second hand buy and remained a common sight on British roads until well after 2000. The Mondeo had been unveiled in November 1992, with the multivalve engines and multi link rear suspension the Sierra lacked.
